Siemens STEP7 Classic to TIA Portal STEP7 v12 Conversion course

you very much for the training you provided for me and my colleague on
the conversion from Step 7 5.5 to TIA portal version 12.
The course was very well structured and, having previously experienced
an issue with programming an S7-300 unit with Step 7 v12, the training
highlighted the potential compatibility issues we could come up against.
The facilitator was, as always, excellent in providing an interactive
learning environment. There were some questions that were raised as we
progressed through the course that we investigated as a group to find an
answer, which was a fantastic opportunity to get ‘deeper’ into v12 than
planned.
The main benefit for our company will be surrounding the hardware
compatibility for v12 with older units. Having tried performing backups
as part of the course, and finding that it does not perform the same as
v5.5 (or recognise some of the older units), we have identified an issue
before it has caused us a problem on the shop floor.
Alongside this, we have found that when migrating some of our older
programs to v12, the new tagging system prevents the program from
running. Again, if we had left this until we needed to upgrade the
program for production needs this would have resulted in considerable
downtime and cost.
As a result of this course, we can now plan for obsolescence and
upgrades with the knowledge that we will have to rewrite or create new
programs, and adapt timescales to suit.
As always INTACS have provided 1st class service and delivery of
critical training and knowledge that has prevented substantial cost and
downtime. I would recommended this course to anybody that is currently
using Step 7 v5.5 and is considering upgrading or buying new equipment
that will be running newer S7 hardware. I believe that most people would
be surprised at the changes, both major and subtle, and how it will
affect their business.
