Electrical Troubleshooting training

Industrial Electrical Inspect & Test

Want your people to be challenged to put into practice their newly acquired Industrial Electrical knowledge & skills?

Industrial Electrics & Control Fundamentals Part 1 & Part 2 training
INTACS have been offering Industrial Electrical Skills & Electrical Safety training for around 25 years. The Part 1 & Part 2 courses (both 5 days) cover a range of essential Industrial Electrical topics & the courses have been extremely popular. Full Course Overviews are available.

What is so special about these courses?
Essentially three things.

  • The courses are Industrial. Most companies in the business of providing Electrical Skills training focus on Installation Electrics for the commercial & domestic market. This is not our core business.
  • The courses are designed for the Industrial User by people who have served time “doing the job”. This means we know where the issues are & we know what it is that people attending the training need to know.
  • Finally, the training is delivered by Instructors who know what they are doing & know the requirements of Electricians & Maintenance Engineers in Industry.

So where does the Electrical Troubleshooting fit in?
People who have completed our Industrial Electrics & Control Fundamentals Part 1 & Part 2 training in the past asked “what was next”. People wanted more support for Electrical Troubleshooting skills.

Electrical Troubleshooting is way more than just Part 3
Electrical Troubleshooting requires that people either already have a good grounding in Industrial Electrics or will have attended our pre-requisite Industrial Electrics Part 1 Part 2 courses.

  • Having a firm foundation in a range of Industrial Electrical Skills is essential & this will include attention to Safety & Safe Working. People need to know how to Work Safely at all times as momentary lapses can have life threatening consequences.
  • People need to start to develop a logical approach to their Fault-finding strategy, identifying symptoms & looking for possible causes.
  • People need to know how to use appropriate Test Tools & Instruments safely & how to interpret readings.
  • People need to understand the range of typical Panel Components, how they work & how they fail so they can factor those conditions into their analysis of symptoms.
  • People need to know how to be able to read Electrical Drawings & trace circuit paths so they can start to test to prove or disprove operation.

Troubleshooting Electrical Control Systems (TECS) what’s it all about?
Our 5 day Troubleshooting Electrical Control Systems (TECS) course is designed to reinforce the safe use of a range of test tools & equipment needed to be able to troubleshoot effectively & to be able to navigate electrical drawings relating these to control panel layout & physical components.

Delegates then concentrate on gaining experience of how to safely identify symptoms & combine this with an analysis of voltage, resistance & current readings to troubleshoot a range of Basic, Intermediate & Advanced fault scenarios. Progress reports are produced for each candidate per fault detailing safe working, accuracy & efficiency & details are recorded of any electrical components damaged or swapped unnecessarily.

Troubleshooting Electrical Control Systems (TECS)
Our TECS course can accommodate up to 6 persons attending the same course. The course can run in our Training Centre or out on a client site.

  • Delegates are introduced to our Process Simulator & are faced with a wide range of Electrical Faults (probably around 60 different Faults in total) to tackle.
  • Delegates work individually getting tuition from the Instructor as they progress.
  • The Process Simulator enables delegates the widest possible range of experience, ensures they work safely & monitors every action. In this way we are able to provide detailed feedback on each person, highlighting individual strengths & weaknesses.
  • The TECS course has been very well received & TECS courses have now been running for around 4 or 5 years.
  • Since individuals work at their own pace, we can accommodate both Electricians & Multiskilled Engineers on the same course.
  • The range of Faults available is designed to stretch & challenge even the most experienced Site Electrician.
